Fishing!

We had quite a storm yesterday with fierce winds and snow. Kason really wanted to go fishing and do something fun so we had to make our own fishing event.
First we made a nice assortment of fish.
Lauren, Kieran, Kason and I each cut and colored several varieties of fish.
Then we hooked a safety pin to the mouth of each. Kason really enjoyed the creating part.
Now time for living room fishing with pole and magnet.
Kason caught a wild and crazy looking fish!
Lauren caught the big one that didn't get away.
Kieran chose a hidden location so he could catch the more difficult fish. Or maybe he was hiding from the camera.

Manny Plays Tennis

Amanda has been on the Skyline Tennis Team for about the past month. She has stuck with it through 6 am practices and conditioning after school. Today she got the chance to play in her first varsity match. Unfortunately, the Rigby team was short players and didn't have someone to play against her. Instead, she and another girl played doubles against two Rigby boys. They lost but just barely. She had fun and did great!

Light Art!

We had some fun the other night with glow in the dark bracelets in a dark room. I held my camera and left the shutter open for six seconds while the kids spun, twisted and danced around with the glowing sticks. I think the results are kind of fun. Vote for your favorite!

Party fun!

Here Kerry is with his cake, he really did turn forty, not 103 like my cake showed.
One of my favorite things about Kerry is that he is fun! Being around him can be a riot sometimes and Saturday night was one of those times.
We had a small group of friends over for cake and ice cream and Kerry's brother Kim decided to roast his brother a bit. He gave him some "Billy Bob" teeth, some hair color, a nifty straw hat, some suspenders, a pack of "depends" and his very own cane.
The kids thought it was hillarious. Kerry really put on a show. In two years Kim will turn 40, that should be fun!!
I got Kerry a new tennis racket.
And forty balls to go with it. The kids each got 40 of something for their dad. 40 peeps, 40 candy bars, 40 guitar picks and 40 shotgun shells. Happy Birthday Kerry, it was fun!

Happy Birthday Kelly #42

Yesterday was Kerry's brother's birthday. He was born in a very good year! We met him and his family at Godfather's Pizza in Idaho Falls and had some good pizza and cake. Here is the cake, strawberry mouse filled from Costco in Pocatello where Kelly works.
Here is Kelly and his wife Debbie, they got married in October last year. Just look at what she has to put up with. :) Thanks for inviting us, Debbie, we are so glad you are in our family!!
This is cute little Joe. He turns 8 later this month. He is Kelly's youngest son and Debbie's youngest boy, Logan is behind him. Debbie has 5 kids, Kelly has three boys.

Here is Kelly with Danny (9th grade), and David (7th grade). And yes, I cut their heads off, I am not a very good photographer when seated.
Hope you had a very Happy Birthday Kelly!!I took this on our way home last night. I thought it might give some of you who live far away a warm fuzzy feeling for good old IF.

Circle of life.

Life is full of ups and downs. Last Friday the kids were so excited that the rabbits had babies. And then they were so sad that all four babies died. It makes me sad to see my children cry and yet glad that they have compassion. It also makes me feel good to know that they have an understanding of life and death and that death is not the end. Those little rabbits made an impact on my family. Life always matters. We are hoping to have little baby rabbits that make it in the future.

Aaronic Priesthood

Blast from the past. This picture was taken Jan. 2008 on the day Kieran was ordained a Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood. Kerry's Mom, Mavanee, joined us in Arco for the nice event.

Well, today Kieran gave his first talk in sacrament meeting and his topic was the Aaronic Priesthood. He prepared ahead and gave us his talk last night, mostly reading from his paper. I suggested that he should read it again a few times to get it down good.

He started out his talk well and read a scripture then he was silent for a moment as he looked through his scripturs and said, "well, I can't find my paper" and I could hear a hint of panic in his voice. Very quickly he regained his composure and gave a great talk. He got many compliments afterward on the fine job he did "winging it". I felt the spirit so strongly during his talk. This will be the first of many speaking opportunities at the pulpit for him. And he has already survived one of the the really dreadful things that can happen to you during a talk. Oh, he found his paper right as he sat down. It had slid under the podium.

This has been a growing year for him, he is now about 2 inches taller than Kerry.

Movie to watch

On Monday night we watched the Emma Smith My Story DVD. It was a movie with lots of great quotes and a real story on having faith through all of the trials of life. What a strong woman Emma Smith was! I often wonder why we have the many trials in life that we do, or why Heavenly Father, who loves us, allows so much suffering in this world. But, I do know that through our trials and tests in life we learn and grow, and with faith we can overcome and be joyful.

Here are a few good quotes from the movie.

"Lilacs do not last very long, things in life rarely do, that makes them all the sweeter." Emma planted lilacs all over Joseph's grave.

"Strength is not something you have but something with God's help you find."

"No amount of sorrow can make things right. Only the Lord's love can make it right."

"Being strong can be a very lonely thing."

"Sometimes fear shouts so loud it drowns out our faith."

"Breg Brace"

So here is my new friend for the next 3 months "Breg", "Donjoy Brace" and I just weren't a good fit. I was lucky that "Breg" was available and didn't have to be special ordered. When the swelling in my leg goes down it should be more comfortable. I am glad to have it so I can transition away from "Crut" and "Ches" but I still need them for a week or so. I am sorry to force you to look at yet another knee post. You are such friends to suffer through so much knee nonsense with me. But, my knee is the dominant factor in my life right now and this morning it is screaming at me to give it ice and TLC. I guess I shall have to.

"Crut" and "Ches"

Here are my new friends, "Crut" and Ches" I have only known them for a couple of weeks but we have become very close. In fact, we go everywhere together. I don't have a picture but they are part of a threesome. "Straight Brace" was unavailable for photos. We occasionally ditch "Straight Brace". The only problem is that "Crut" and "Ches" are very demanding, they require my constant attention anytime I am trying to go anywhere or get anything done. New friends require so much time and energy! The Doctor informed me today that since my knee was looking great, I soon get a new friend, "Donjoy Brace". "Donjoy" and I will be close friends for a least 3 months, but, "Crut" and "Ches" soon get to spend most of their time on their own. I Just don't have time for that many close friends. :)
Just to make Tyson wish he was still in Idaho, here is a picture two days ago out my back window.
And here is one from the front.

My Birthday #42

Yes, I am officially (as of last Wednesday) a 42 year old crippled woman!! It seems like my kids think I am 130 years, boy do I look good for my age.
Here the little darlings are. And here I am on the couch where I have spent the majority of the last 10 days. I go to the doctor tomorrow to see how soon I can ditch the crutches. :)
